About Miami Beach - The Jewel In The Sun In South Florida

Miami Beach is situated on a barrier island in south Florida. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Biscayne Bay on the other. Across the bay is the world famous city of Miami. A section of Miami Beach is called South Beach and is well known as the place where the beautiful people live and vacation.

Miami Beach may have a reputation as being home to thin, rich, and beautiful people, but in reality, it is a great place for everyone. It is a place of tropical beauty with azure skies dipping into sparkling ocean swells and sun kissed beaches. Scientifically speaking, Miami Beach has a tropical monsoon climate. That means the summers are hot and humid and the winters are warm. This stretch of paradise is one of the few paces in the US that has never recorded snowfall.

Being located on the southern tip of Florida where the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico merge sets Miami Beach up for some interesting weather and makes it vulnerable to tropical storms and hurricanes, as low pressure systems come barreling off the coast of Africa and build in intensity over the wide expanse of water. However, so far, Miami Beach has only been directly hit by a hurricane one time in its history.

With all its sun and beauty, Miami Beach is a natural at drawing locals and vacationers alike. In addition to the natural beauty of the area, there are lots of other reasons to visit. South Beach has some of the best restaurants and nightclubs in all of south Florida. In addition, Miami Beach has a thriving historic district. The Art Deco Historic District is said to be the largest Art Deco architectural collection in the world. Hundreds of buildings erected from 1923 to 1943 still stand today as apartment buildings and hotels. The movies Scarface and The Birdcage featured this area of Miami Beach.

The TV series Miami Vice featured the South Beach area and helped catapult it into fame. Before the TV series, this part of the beach was plagued by crime but now is one of the richest communities in the area although some sections are still struggling with crime and poverty. Another well known section of Miami Beach is Lincoln Road. This area is busy with rollerbladers, bicyclers, and pedestrians shopping in the eclectic stores and dining in outdoor cafes. There are several art galleries here too, some of them are homes to well known artists and photographers.

Miami Beach is great for visiting any time of the year. However, it has big appeal during the winter months when the snow flies in the northern US. Seasonal visitors called snowbirds flock to the area to soak up the balmy ocean breezes and sun soaked days. With the beautiful weather and chic lifestyle, it is no wonder this part of Florida is so popular. There is something for everyone. From water sports to deep sea fishing to club hopping, you'll never run out of things to do in Miami Beach.
